Challenge #55 (I think) - 'Cold'
Cold hearts, cold shoulders, cold water - dredge the briny depths and see what you can bring up for us that's a little chilly or completely frozen.

Challenge #54 - 'Tossed'
Yea, I know, I know. Let's just say it's been one of those months, and leave it at that . ^^;

Your challenge this time, should you choose to accept it, is 'Tossed'. Over a shoulder, over a rail; cookies or salad, it's up to you.

Challenge #53
In the grand tradition of p500, I am once again running late. But that's okay, as apparently, so are all of you. ^.~

I am sorely disappointed with the lack of Tia Dalma pr0n responses! Well, no, not really; but that's your cue for the next go-'round: Disappointment. At times, it seems as if it's the very framework on which our treasured tales are built. Jack loses the Pearl, and on regaining it, slips right through James Norrington's desperate grasp. The king of the sea builds his empire on hollow vengence; while Elizabeth learns not to seek what she cannot bear to find - or one hopes she would, at least. Show us a moment missed from a new angle, or dig up a secret regret we never saw at all.

Challenge #52, and the Letters of Mark
(The one before the other, as it may be.)

Based on the replies given so far, it sounds like continuin' the bi-weekly format is the best option - so until further notice, and with the exception of this one (because I'm chomping at the bit to dive back in, here), challenges will be issued on the first and fifteenth of every month. linaelyn has kindly offered to fill in in such instances as I'm not available (and ponderosa121 will be staying on as a mod, and may well surprise us with a drop-in now and then).

For ease o'lookin' back, all previous challenges have now been tagged as such. There's also a 'fic' tag for those of you who'd like to use it. It's not required, and I doubt I'm going to go back and tag all however many fics we have (though if any of our good crew would like to, be my my guest); since I'm led to understand that there's a limit on how many tagged entries will show up in the list. For that reason, I am going to start adding to and organizing the memories sometime in the near future (which really has very little to do with anyone else, but eventually, they'll be there so you can find them ^^; ).

Also, a reminder about those previous challenges: Bein' that we've never had a flood o'responses or much trouble with posts gettin' out o'hand, if ye don't make it in quite under the mark - or if ye should be perusin' the list and see somethin' that catches yer eye - feel free to go ahead and submit yer response anyway. Theoretically, we're saying a reasonable amount of time after challenges have been made, but I quote from the original post on this subject: "'Reasonable' obviously will vary from person to person, but when in doubt: pirate!"

And, finally - Remember, the only posts that should be made to the community itself are challenges and responses thereto - but feedback is always welcome in the comments, and if you have an idea for a future challenge, I'm happy to take 'em into consideration and add 'em to the list! Just drop a comment in reply to one of my posts. ^_^ If you're just setting sail with us or have forgotten the requirements (of which there are very few), information about the proper format for posting a response can be found in the userinfo.

Now! On to the fun!

Your welcome-back challenge is That Ol' Black Magic. There are many things in the world of our dear pirates and their friends that defy explanation - Just who is Tia Dalma, and who - or what - is whispering all those secrets in her ear? What's the true origin of Jack's compass, and who owned it before him? Spin us a yarn of a woman as harsh and untamable as the sea and the spell she casts on those who know her, or weave us a tale of ships summoned from the depths. (But please, speculation only! We're not looking to spoil AWE here - so if you know the truth, that's the one thing you shouldn't tell! ^.~)

Avast, mateys! (The politest mutiny ever)
We were sorely hoping to get the community up and running again post-haste for DMC, but alas, our good Cap'n Pond has been mightily awash with other duties. In light of that, she's kindly turned the helm over to me for the time being, and challenges will be forthcoming as soon as we're out of port.

However. Our long-time crew will no doubt recall that prior to the hiatus, we had taken on a bi-weekly format due to the dwindlin' of inspiration. So, before we set sail, I'd be likin' a show of preference for the new letters - Is the current arrangement more conducive to contribution, given that it's more time to work around schooling/jobbing/I-have-ten-catsing, or do we want to have another go with a once-a-week challenge? Leave yer mark, or take what ye get! ^.~

I know there are some people out there who will agree with me that Jack Sparrow IS NOT from some low-class uneducated family (mother-whore, father-hell knows what...that kind of stuff).

I just want to hear some opinions/discuss this topic.

Father's Day Fic
I don't know if there even are any fathers that might read this, as I'm not sure how many men even keep up with this fandom. But in the case that there are fathers present, Happy Father's Day!

Pirate's New Year and Challenge #51 - Resolutions
Rise and shine, crew! (Why is this being posted at such an ungodly hour? Well, because I'm up and Neptune knows where we'll be tonight, eh?)

The grand re-launch of pirates500 was originally planned for last month, but thanks to the Great LJ Blackout, you all got an extra several weeks of holiday. But we're back now, and hopefully with a minimum of desertions!

First things first - based on the feedback we got in December, p500 will be switching to a bi-weekly format. Challenges will be posted on the first and the fifteenth, which means that instead of struggling to meet a seven-day deadline, you'll have roughly two weeks to respond to a given topic. With any luck, this will allow you to find time to write around the other little annoyances necessities of life, and get our participation back up. (And as always, feel free to go on and post even if you're a bit late! As long as the challenge hasn't started gathering cobwebs, you should be fine. ^.~)

And now, what you're really here for: In celebration of Pirate New Year, your topic this fortnight is Resolutions. Swearing off the wenches? Going to lose that excess Commodore you've been dragging around (for real, this time)? Cutting back on the rum - okay, so no one on this island's a saint! Whatever your favourite scoundrel's plans for self-improvement, tell us all about it - and we'll see how long it lasts. ^.~

#49 - Gratitude
A new world, a new life, a new wife, an old ship. Treasure. A fine wench's booty backside.

This week, humour the poor Colonist who's already sick of turkey, and spin us a yarn about the things pirates (or their unslaughtered but slightly-poorer victims!) have to be thankful for.

Challenge # 47 - The Bright Side
*Nudges the ship back on course, since it's her week again, anyway*

Your challenge this week takes a cue from a previous mission: Bring us a tale from wherever your fancy takes you, so long as the last line includes the phrase, "But look on the bright side -" (followed, of course, by an explanation of what the bright side is!).
